What are two key takeaways you have learned from this course?
The two key takeaways I took from the course was the importance of benefits and having a robust total rewards program and how important performance reviews are. Employees value a robust benefits package and enjoy their time off and wellness incentives. Understanding your employee demographics and what their decisions and satisfaction drivers are help organizations better understand ways to retain their staff and recruit new staff. In addition performance reviews are critical for organization to finish and have a processes in place to help give feedback to the staff. A lot of staff don't feel like they get 1:1 attention from their managers so conducting performance reviews help provide time to employees to get dedicated attention from their manager and it also always for employees to understand and reflect on their strengths and where they can improve on their weaknesses.
How will you use the knowledge gained over this course?
Since attending the course I have already taken back ideas to my organization about benefit enhancements and the recognition PTO process that was reviewed in an article we read. The course also gave me a better understanding of how valuable total rewards is for an organization to have and how to get creative on recognition platforms.
Do you think SHRM website would be valuable to you in your current or future positions?
Yes, 100% I use SHRM on a regular basis. I love the website and have got many valuable resources from the site. It provides great legal updates and references, policies, presentations, and training tools that are of value to use as leadership trainings. The site is amazing!

The article I picked was about Walt Disney getting suit by employees for not getting paid a livable wage. This is a hot topic today since a lot of states are increasing their minimum wages above the federal threshold levels. The article shows a strong emphasis on how important this is for organizations to recognize since it plays a big role in obtaining retention and recruitment.
