Hey class, Ethical behavior, social responsibility, and sustainability are important aspects of corporate governance because an organizations reputation is on the line with these. It is important that the ethics of a company are held to a high standard so consumers feel value in a transaction. The social responsibility that an organization has is to provide the trustworthiness to its customers and employees. The morals and ethics are huge in the in sustainability as sustainable practices of positive behaviors lead to the long-term leadership in an organization. The four tenets of conscious capitalism are Higher Purpose, Stakeholder Orientation, Conscious Leadership, and Conscious Culture. Higher Purpose is when a business that focuses beyond just making profits. This includes the purpose and mission as to what the people are striving for involved in the organization. Higher Purpose can create positive change in an organization when values such as loyalty to one another when because everyone knows theyre there for more than just themselves. Stakeholder Orientation values all members of the organization. This means having awareness in making decisions that involve stakeholders and having their best interests. Stakeholder Orientation can create positive change because it involves the best in decisions for those involved in having a stake in the company. This creates good business practice. Conscious Leadership is when leaders guide through positivity and encouragement. In this style of leadership it is understood that the well-being of others is valued. Operating through Conscious Leadership can create positive change through having the conscious in positive business habits that are contagious throughout an organization. Conscious Culture is the fourth tenet and is valued because it involves morals and ethics. Morals and ethics create positive change because trustworthiness between all individuals now lead to a stronger trusted team. When I think of conscious capitalism, I think of Costco. Costco offers above-market wages, benefits for its employees, and great retirement plans. Costco hangs its hat on treating its employees well and gives many promotion opportunities within its company and is one of the higher rated companies with employee satisfaction. Many companies do qualify in this standard, but many more should also improve and learn more about conscious capitalism.
