The most influential leader I have come in contact with working with me on a student mentorship program. Not only did he lead the program, but he was also the organizer and the main fundraiser for the program. He had legitimate power as our leader. He had some forms of reward power based on the fact we had to rely on him for the success of our program and the opportunities we were exposed to. He most definitely had expert power because he was the most skilled mentor in the program and we were able to ask him any questions and received responses immediately with full detail and explanations. Most of the other mentors had the desire to work with and around this leader, and therefore he really had referent power which basically spilled over to the students. Our desire to learn from him had a lot to do with the fact the mentors themselves wanted to work with him.
As a leader, he dealt with resistance in that he spoke very candidly with the students and really pulled on their heartstrings. In the real world, outside of this program, I was able to witness him use his influence in both politics and business as he's a successful local businessman.
Most of the time, this leader is able to negotiate agreements based on negotiation skills and experience that he has gained in his business experience.
From this leader, I learned that being a part of our community, and being vocal in our community's politics and needs is one of the most influential ways to have a notable voice in the VI. He deals with resistance and negotiation by speaking to each stakeholder individually and personally. He accomplished his goals by being personable and influential. He was the voice of reason, skilled, and intellectual, and spoke with an assertive tone.
Overall, he was a leader that I continue to remember.

Think about the most influential leader you have come in contact with. What forms of power did he or she have, and which types of influence did he or she use to accomplish objectives?
The most influential person I encountered was the office manager at my previous job. This office manager was well-educated, and have a high emotional intelligence. She demonstrated expert power. Expert derives from a persons expertise and the knowledge they have. Experts also influence other people who need that expertise. The office manager used persuasion and collaboration tactics to accomplish objectives. She shares insight with hard information along with meeting them at a middle line by assisting and providing efficient and proper resources.
How did the leader deal with resistance?
The office manager never took anything personally; However, when she implemented something new or make a change, she stood her ground. The office manager was understanding. She would give us a chance to share our views and perspectives, then, she would share insight on how the new implementation or change will be a betterment for the staff and the company. She would also, be patient while we are adapting to the new change.
How did the leader negotiate agreements?
This leader negotiates agreements by collaborating. She took her staff's concerns into consideration. Collaboration is generally regarded as the most effective form of conflict resolution and is a win-win situation (Wesson,2020) One day she assigned the office staff a project, unfortunately, they were upset because they would have to work late hours and skip lunch a few times within the week. Because the staff was not happy about the new project, she give them autonomy over the project. In that way, they were able to manage the late nights and lunch hours at their convenience.
