Given: Student Design Project Preliminary Structural Frame and Design forces. Layout of moment

frames as determined by each group and shown below. Moment frames should be installed in

numbered column lines $(1-6).$ Example of moment frame profile is shown below.

Find:

Evaluate your selected preliminary inside and edge columns and girders of the moment frame

considering LRFD load combinations $2$a and $(4a$ or $6).$

Provide profile of a typical moment frame with required forces in the columns and girders as

well as member sizes in a figure below.

Method:

Use $1^{st}$ order gravity and horizontal forces derived from previous assignments $($HW$1$ and HW$3).$

Use Portal Method to estimate internal forces in the moment frame due to horizontal forces

applied to the frame calculated in HW$3.$ Use moment distribution methods to determining $1^{st}$

order internal forces from $($HW$1)$ as discussed in the lectures.

Evaluate members for adequate capacity using $1^{st}$ order required strength only in accordance

with AISC $16\mathrm{.}1.$H$1($Members subjected to flexure and axial forces$).$

Adjust preliminary selection of members as necessary.
