Question:
Golden Gate University (GGU or Golden Gate) was founded in 1901. It is a private non-profit higher education institution, located in the heart of San Francisco, California. GGU offers professional education such as law, business, taxation, technology, accounting, psychology, and undergraduate studies (Mojadad, 2023). The first educational department at GGU was the law school and the subsequent department was the business school which offers accounting, business administration, and taxation which confers bachelors, masters and doctoral degrees. In general, Golden Gate University is primarily a post-graduate institution focused on professional training in law and business (Mojadad, 2023). Smaller undergraduate programs are linked to its larger graduate and professional schools. Golden Gate University has been accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) by the Northwest Commission of Colleges and Universities (Mojadad, 2023). Additionally, the school of law has been accredited by the American Bar Association (ABA) and the Committee of Bar Examiners of the State Bar of California (Mojadad, 2023). The school of accounting has been accredited by the Certified Financial Planner (CFP). The Tax program has been ranked as the highest-regarded MS in the United States along with DePaul University (Mojadad, 2023).
Currently, the university is managed by a self-sustaining board of trustees that ranges between 15 and 20 members while the day-to-day operation of the university is in the hands of a president, provost, vice-presidents, and the deans of the schools (Mojadad, 2023). Roughly 67 percent of students who attend Golden Gate University are in graduate business programs, 21 percent are law students, and 12 percent are in undergraduate programs. In 2019, more than 80% of the student population came from South and South-Central Asia (Mojadad, 2023).
Recently, GGU's nonprofit law school in Downtown San Francisco faced an existential vote to keep the 122-year-old institution alive because Golden Gate University may close the law school department because bar pass- rate dives so below the standard. Consequently, the students' enrollment suffers, the prestige of school takes a nosedive and the budget becomes crisis.
