Julie is employed as a purchasing clerk by Herbatech, an Ontario firm. She sent an offer by email on behalf of her company to Karim, to purchase equipment. Karim replies by email three days later, accepting the other but in the interval, Julie left her job at Herbatech. Her email account is closed, and Karim's reply is bounced back as undeliverable. After a cumbersome effort of days to find out who replaced Julie, Karim is informed that the offer has lapsed as Julie's replacement found an alternate supplier for the equipment. Was there an enforceable contract between Karim and Herbatech?
