(2021) examined the effectiveness of CBT for alcohol use disorder compared to a supportive counseling intervention. The study included 300 adults with a diagnosis of alcohol use disorder, who were randomly assigned to receive either 12 sessions of CBT or 12 sessions of supportive counseling over a 6-month period. The primary outcome measures were the number of drinking days and the quantity of alcohol consumed per drinking day. The results showed that the CBT group had a significantly greater reduction in the number of drinking days and the quantity of alcohol consumed compared to the supportive counseling group at the 6-month follow-up
