Group 1: 1. Problem: A child that will not stop sucking their thumb/refuses to give up pacifier . Type of learning: Operant conditioning - positive punishment (making the pacifier undesirable by adding hot sauce or other aversive things to it) 2. Problem: A cat who scratches the furniture . Type of learning: Operant conditioning - positive punishment (spraying cat with water when seen scratching furniture) Group 2: 1. Problem: An alcoholic that is having a hard time not drinking wine with meals . Type of learning: Operant conditioning - positive punishment (giving medications that take away rewards of drinking and that can cause aversive reactions if alcohol is consumed while taking medication) 2. Problem: A dog who chases the mail man . Type of learning: Operant conditioning - positive punishment (Shock collar - every time dog chases gets a shock) Group 3: 1. Problem: A smoker who is trying to quit, but has a hard time not smoking while using the restroom . Type of learning: Operant conditioning - positive reinforcer (give smoker gum instead of cigarette) o Type of learning: Classical conditioning - replace cigarette with nicotine gum and then regular gum and 2. Problem: A pet bird that begins to chirp every morning when the sun rises . Type of learning: Operant conditioning - positive punishment (placing blanket on cage) Group 4: 1. Problem: A child who has melt downs (UCR) during bed time (UCS)/does not want to go to bed Type of learning: Classical Conditioning (Associate reading a story to help calm down (conditioned stimulus) to conditioned response - going to bed (w/o melt down). 2. Problem: A horse that does not like his saddle .
