You will need to estimate the tributary width as well as the applied loading. You will need to sketch the structural elements from various angles, plan view, elevation, cross section, etc. to show you understand the load paths in the structure.
Roof level loads contain snow and there are two types of snow load on flat roofs.
Roof snow load as if the roof were flat.
Roof snow load with the consideration of drifting.
Instructions:
Create a team of or students.
Locate the structures on campus.
Walk both the Precast Structure and the Cast in Place Structure. Identify a flexural member at the roof level in both structures to investigate.
Measure the sections and make sketches as you will need to estimate their dead load and span. Include:
Selfweight of the Structural Beams
Floor Member Dead Load
Topping Assume normal weight concrete over the DT in the PC structure and assume CIP slab in the CIP structure.
