Point A and point B are the edges of a cliff are 3 m away from each other in the horizontal direction. Create a bridge using a truss structure such that it spans the distance between A and B.
Requirements:
The bridge is meant for traffic, thus there must be a straight line between A and B,
Use members that are at most 1 m in length.
Since the bridge is meant for traffic, assume a uniform distribution of 250kNm acting on the bridge.
For simplicity, replace the distribution with equal forces that are acting at each of the joints that are in a straght line i.e. the members in requirement #1.
Ignore weight of the members.
Analyse the structure using Method of Joints or Method of Sections.
Determine whether each member is in tension or compression.
