Guidelines for tackling question

The assignments submitted by learners must achieve the learning outcomes and meet the standards specified by the assessment criteria for the unit. To achieve a merit or distinction grade, the learners must demonstrate that they have achieved all the criteria set for these grades. Where work for the pass standard is marginal, assessors can take account of any extension work completed by the learners. The suggested evidence listed below is how learners can demonstrate that they have met the required standards.

2.	LO1 AC 1.3	The discussion paper produced by the learners must include a detailed explanation of how leadership and management styles can be adapted to meet organisational needs. The learner must refer to a range of management styles which are directly linked to the needs of organisations. Actual exemplar material will help the learner to explain the points which are made.

Case

You have recently been employed as a trainee departmental manager by a large corporate organisation. All new employees are enrolled on an induction training programme. As part of the programme, there are a number of tasks and activities that must be completed to successfully pass the induction and become a permanent member of staff. All of the work needs to be retained in your induction file which will be presented to your line manager on completion of the induction programme.

Each inductee is required to produce a Discussion Paper for use in one of the induction sessions. The title of your Discussion Paper is Explain how leadership and management styles change to meet the needs of business situations.
