Has a film (or television miniseries or show) ever surpassed a book in terms of its power
Question:
Has a film (or television miniseries or show) ever surpassed a book in terms of its power on the imagination? Probably not in most cases since reading a book forces you to imagine what the events would have actually "looked" like, whereas a film is based on someone else's imaginative powers and technical prowess.
However, ocassionally a film may come close, and in some cases surpass, a book given a combination of things such as the following: acting, cinimetography, lighting, choreography, the wording in the screenplay adaptation, etc.
Discuss a movie you've seen (The Hobbit, for instance) and compare it briefly to a book version you've read. What was good or effective about one and/or the other? Why?
