Having issues with my code in js

i want an initial "click here" message on the screen and everytime you click it

,

an additional "click here" message will appear, i want this i happen on two clicks, so

messages in total. and on the third click to erase those previous messages and leave a "thankyou" message, than after one more click leave a "goodbye" message, and on a final click, erase everything. right now, the first click works and brings up the messag, but the rest occur on every

other click. none of the messages get removed either. any help is grateful
