Having used all three systems throughout my life let me give a detailed description of my thoughts on each. Overall with age, Linux has become my favorite and daily driver.

 

Microsoft Windows:

Most people use Windows whether for work or personal use because it has a user interface and works well with a wide range of software. In settings, it is especially popular due to its compatibility with various business applications.
When it comes to scripting languages, PowerShell and Batch scripting are commonly used on Windows. PowerShell is particularly powerful for automation and administrative tasks. However, Windows does have its challenges. It is often criticized for being more susceptible to viruses and malware compared to operating systems. Some users also find the frequent updates disruptive. Additionally, customization options are somewhat limited compared to Linux(n.d.).

 

Mac (macOS):

Professionals in industries like graphic design, video editing, and music production prefer macOS because it offers robust performance and an excellent software ecosystem. AppleScript is the scripting language used on macOS along with Bash in its Terminal. However, macOS also supports languages such as Python and Ruby. That said, one challenge of macOS is that it tends to be more expensive than options, on the market. Additionally, hardware upgrade options are somewhat limited compared to systems. The range of software options available for macOS while of quality is less vast than what is offered for Windows(Official Apple Support, n.d.).

Linux:

Linux is particularly popular among developers, system administrators, and tech enthusiasts. Its open-source nature makes it a favored choice in scientific communities as well as for servers and cloud computing purposes. The commonly used scripting language on Linux is Bash; however, due to its open-source nature, it also supports various other languages such as Python, Perl, and Ruby.There can be some challenges when using Linux for those who are not familiar with command-line interfaces. Additionally, hardware compatibility might sometimes pose an issue with newer hardware models (Linux.com - News for Open Source Professionals, 2023).
