Hello class and instructor,
As I mentioned in my video submission I will for sure be going through the steps to align and lap my scope mounts, both my current low powered variable optic "lpvo" set up as well as future scoped options. It seems like a relatively easy process that offers multiple benefits with no real downsides to speak of. My issue right now is the fact that my current lpvo and mount setup is 34mm rather than the provided 30mm so I need to source the tooling to complete the process as what was provided is only for 30mm. Not a huge deal as I am quite sure I will be able to locate what I need without too much issue. As my main setup is used for competition shooting I definitely see a benefit in squeezing out any advantage I can. While I have not noticed any issues with my non lapped mount it can only get better if there are imperfections or misalignments.
Where I question the "value" is in solid piece lpvo mounts that have both the rings built in. I would assume, the two ring mounts would be fairly well aligned considering they are made from the same piece of metal. There still is likely imperfections in the ring areas themselves so lapping may still provide a benefit but as far as the alignment part of it I do not think it has too much value. I could, of course, be completely wrong but without the 34mm tooling I can't rightly test my theory.
