Hello class, for this week I have chosen to do why doesn't Descartes simply determine what's real by looking around him and use his experience.

After doing the readings I found it very interesting on the approach Descartes took on how to find reality. Descartes was able to be successful (to an extent) on his approach because he used math and geometry to help with his reasoning. He doesn't just determine what's real by looking around because just like magic, your eyes can deceive you which can alter your judgement on reality. So, he took the approach of "Method of doubt" or "an evil demon deception". This made him question whether or not he was being tricked into believing what he sees and experiences so he had to come up with a reality that could not be questioned. Ex. 2 apples plus 2 apples = 4 apples but how do you know they are apples? By coming up with this reasoning he was able to come to the conclusion that he was in fact a "thing" and that "thing" could think or else the demon would not have something to trick. Although some of this reasoning behind finding reality have been replaced it made me think I have to be able to find my own reasoning behind my quest to find my own reality.
