Hello everyone, Communication is another really important area to mention in this discussion, especially when participating in an online program. Asking questions to professors when students are unsure of anything related to academic integrity is critical in knowing what is acceptable and what is not. For example, two students in an online class had gotten to know one another through a group project. On a subsequent assignment, one student asked the other student if they could view their paper for ideas. The second student had already submitted their paper early and felt that there was no harm in allowing sharing their paper. Unfortunately, the second student plagiarized the paperand both students had to be reported for academic dishonestly and were contacted by the Office of Academic Integrity. Had the first student reached out to the instructor and asked if this was acceptable, the instructor would have been able to explain that it is never ok to share work because we don't know what someone else will do with that work once it is out of our hands: GCU has a free tutoring service, very helpful librarians, not to mention faculty members who are here to help, so students should ask for help and use the appropriate resources rather than seeking assistance from other students. Consequences can range from a letter of warning to expulsion depending on the result of the investigation. Class, how can you avoid ever finding yourself in a similar situation?
