Hello, i'm studying about ship hydrodynamic, could you guys guide the step to solve this problem.
1. A resistance is conducted on a model of a cargo ship whose characteristics are as follows:
LWL =140 m
B =20 m
T =10 m
CB =0.60
S =6,700 m2
The model has a length on waterline of 4 m. It is tested in the bare hull (no appendages) condition in fresh water with temperature of 21oC. When towed at the model speed corresponding to the design ship speed of 16 knots, the towing mass is measured at 5 kg.
a. Determine the scale ration, characteristics and speed of the model.
b. Calculate the ship model total resistance coefficient and ship total resistance coefficient. Given the information as follows:
model, fresh water
ship, seawater
\rho =1000 kg/m3
\rho =1025 kg/m3
\upsilon =1.004 x 10-6 m2/s
\upsilon =1.05\times 106 m2/ s
Correction allowance CA =0.10 x 10-3
c. Determine the bare hull effective power in standard sea water (21oC) at design speed.
d.Determine the power to be added to overcome appendage resistance (estimated to be 7 percent of bare hull resistance) and still air resistance if Sair=7,700 ft2 with air coefficient for a containership is Cair =0.90.
