Hello, I need help responding to my classmates for a discussion question.
Discussion question: How might someone in your academic discipline or future vocation be able to live out a Christian missional purpose?
My own response to the question was:
Background information of me: I am going to school for a Business Information Systems degree. My goal is to acquire a job as a Computer systems analysts.
There are a variety of ways that someone in my academic discipline or future vocation can live out a Christian missional purpose. First and foremost, it is important for computer systems analysts to practice integrity and honesty in their work. This means using their skills and knowledge to help companies and organizations operate more efficiently and ethically. Additionally, computer systems analysts should strive to be a positive influence in their workplace by treating their co-workers with respect and setting a good example. Finally, computer systems analysts can use their unique skills and knowledge to help those in need. This could include volunteering their time and resources to help disadvantaged organizations or communities develop and implement computer systems to improve their quality of life. By doing so, computer systems analysts can help make a difference in the world and live out a Christian missional purpose.
I don't know what to respond to them. I will post the responses below.
I am not looking for an answer to the discussion question. I am looking for help on what to respond to the the posts that my classmates made.
Below are the posts that my classmates made. I am required to reply to them by providing feedback on my thoughts about their post. Whether I agree with them or not. I can provide more insight info regards to the topic. etc..
My classmates responded the following:
1. My future career is in the educational field, more specifically as a middle school teacher. I see this as a great mission field, as youth ministries is where my heart is. I will be able to live out my Christian mission purpose as I can be an encourager to my students and let them know someone is there and cares for them, live out my Christian faith by showing them the daily walk of living for God, and show others compassion and kindness. Although I can not stand in front of my students and preach a sermon, there are so many ways I can show them I care for them and love them, and hopefully, they see how I live out my life as a Christian, they will want to follow suit. At the local school I hope to teach at they have a group called FCA-Fellowship of Christian Athletes, but anyone is invited to attend. Every Thursday morning a student does a devotion and prayer before school starts, I have attended many times as a guest speaker and love that kids want to share the gospel on their own. When I start at this school I hope to be a sponsor of this group and help encourage others to join in.
2. I want to be a middle school English teacher in the future. Last year, when New York City was experiencing a teacher shortage in the wake of the pandemic, I had the privilege of filling in as an interim teacher (I am a certified teacher assistant.) While I am not permitted to speak about God expressly in a school context, I believe that I am still able to educate my scholars how to be a decent person and unwittingly impart Christian principles. Integrity, hope, respect, compassion, wisdom, justice, courage, and responsibility were my eight classroom pillars last year, all of which have their roots in the teachings of the Bible in some way or another. Although I didn't have the opportunity to educate them about God, I did have the opportunity to teach them how to become the sort of people God desires. As I have previously indicated, I believe that my career path was chosen for me by God.
3. My vocational goal in the future is to be a nurse. Not exactly sure which specialty, but either Labor and Delivery, NICU, or working in brain science. I find learning and understanding ways to care for my body and increase health very interesting. I have always been a person that just wants to know how to fix everything. When someone is sick, I want to have an answer or a remedy. This can be a blessing, since it has driven me to go into the medical field, but it also is a curse at times because it is hard for me to let go of control and let God take care of it. I know this career is very widely spread and needed and I think it will be a place where I can serve God's people in a lot of numerous ways. My hope as a future nurse is to simply be a person that patients find peace with. Someone patients can find hope and comfort in. God has called me and everyone to serve and love His people. To just be a smiling person to someone in need, can be exactly what that person needs to see God in that day. I can glorify God by working with joy and hope in my step. I want to go and serve on mission/medical trips, where I can serve and heal people of lower incomes and higher disease rates, where they are in desperate need. I would love to one day, become a doctor and open up my own clinic where I can give healthcare to those in need for no price at all. There are so many ways this vocation will provide me with an even bigger environment to live out my purpose as a Christian
4. My future career is going to be in elementary teaching. I am planning to be a third grade teacher. While I am not able to talk about God specifically in a school setting, I feel that I am still able to teach my students how to be a good person. Teaching them to be kind and to help those around them is a big lesson for children at that age. Many students struggle with knowing how to treat others the way they want to be treated, and showing them how their actions have the power to make or break another's day. While I am not teaching them about God directly, I am teaching them what kind of person God wants them to be, and I feel that is a great lesson that goes beyond what we are learning in the classroom. If I can make a difference in even one student's life, then I feel that I am fulfilling my purpose on this Earth.
5. My vocational goal right now is to become an educator of English language learners. If I were someone who believes in a Christian worldview, I would be able to live out a Christian missional purpose through this work. In this position, I would be working directly with a population that is considered vulnerable before stepping into a classroom. Students who are learning English as their second language are already at a disadvantage in education and rely on those services for them to find success. I feel like it is in direct relation to Jesus Christ and the Christian missional purpose to help those who need it, those who are vulnerable and those who are disadvantaged. In this position I would help those students succeed in the classroom and open up opportunities for them in other areas of their lives and futures by offering my help to them.
