Hello
Please consider the units and all parameters. I have got your answer but you did not count shear strength, pre-consolidation pressure in different depth.
QUESTION: A new two-span underpass bridge is being proposed on Hwy 401 and Regional Rd
10. The new bridge will have equal spans of 35 m and a width of 15 m to
accommodate two lanes of RR 10 and sidewalks.
Approach embankments at the bridge abutments are 10 metres in height tapering
down to 0 approximately 350 metres beyond the abutments.
The subsurface conditions at the site consist of a deep deposit of silty clay
approximately 20 metres in thickness underlain by a thin deposit of a silty sand till
approximately 2 metres in thickness which in turn is underlain by bedrock. The silty
clay stratum consists of a very stiff desiccated crust approximately 2 metres in
thickness underlain by a slightly preconsolidated silty clay with a preconsolidation
pressure of approximately 100 kPa in excess of the overburden pressure for the
upper half and 150 kPa in the lower half. The shear strength profile consists of 100
kPa material in the desiccated crust zone to an underlying 30 kPa zone for the upper
half and 75 kPa in the lower half.
The groundwater table is at the ground surface.
