It does not help that efforts to curb money and politics have, in recent years, been compromised due to a handful of important court decisions including the now infamous Citizen's United v. FEC ruling in 2010. Consequently, the policy preferences of the very wealthy consistently prevail over the preferences of middle-class and poor voters.
