While I enjoy my work immensely, I often think about how workforce demographics (my majority) limit us in researching and treating diverse populations.One major cultural factor is language; while not directly addressed in the Census data, language demographics are also changing rapidly in the U.S. For workers in Communication Sciences and Disorders, it is essential to understand that children in this country do not all speak English at the same level; they may be bilingual or multilingual, and they may be dialect speakers or accented English speakers. In graduate school, new Speech-Language Pathologists receive very little training and experience working with minority language speakers, and resources are usually normed on English. To train SLP students to work with minority language speakers, it is essential to give them
