2) Now, use the appropriate databases to find and save to your computer six (6) items: Two "scholarly" articles on "belonging" (your choice of something interesting - but make sure it is scholarly, and make sure it is about belonging), from each of the three fields (that is, two from Anthropology, two from Psychology, and two from Sociology).Remember that you can find the correct databases for each subject by using the SBS 210 Subject Guide: https://libguides.usm.maine.edu/sbs210.

IMPORTANT: It can be tricky to determine what field a particular article is from! Here are a few tips:

(1) Look at the title and affiliation of the author(s) at the bottom of the first page of the article. If they are associated with a Psychology department, chances are it is a psychology article. If they are affiliated with a department of Religion, chances are it isn't any of the three fields we're looking for. This information won't always be included in the author description information, but when it is, it is a good clue.

(2) Look at the name of the journal that the article is published in. If it has the name "sociology" in the journal name, chances are it is a sociology article. If, on the other hand, it is a journal of "social psychology," it is a psychology article, even though the content might overlap a lot with the field of sociology. (3) Finally, if you cannot tell whether a journal is a "peer reviewed, scholarly" journal or not, go to the journal's home page (just Google the journal to get there) and check out the "instructions for authors" (how to submit a paper to the journal). If it describes a peer review process, it is almost certainly a scholarly journal. If it does not, it almost certainly isn't. But also make sure to learn how to do a search for scholarly sources within the USM libraries system, which will save you a lot of time!

3) Finally, provide a write-up of your work, describing the following: a. Identify at least one database source for doing a literature search within Psychology, one for Anthropology, and one for Sociology. List the database names. If one database is best for searching more than one of these fields, be sure to explain that in a couple of sentences. b. Provide the correctly formatted APA citation for the six scholarly articles on belonging that interested you (two from each discipline). Make sure you use the APA style guide to format your citations! c. Explain why you want to read each article. In other words, what makes it interesting, important, compelling or personally meaningful? Why do you think it will add to your own exploration of belonging this semester?
