My experience in participating in this course so far has been great. The assignments in this course pushed my thought process further than the undergraduate classes. I find it challenging but rewarding at the same time. The materials consolidated my perspectives on effective leadership while expanding my knowledge of skills and behaviors necessary for altering and performing appropriate leadership strategies to adapt to unexpected changes. This helps me reflect on my current skills, strengths, and weaknesses to prepare myself better for future MBA courses.
Finding and maintaining the right balance between work and study was difficult. There were times when I did not have enough time to complete my assignments because work responsibilities took more time to fulfill and overlapped with the times I dedicated to this class. The most challenging time in this course was when 3 assignments were required to be submitted at once in one week. Another challenge was the course load. It required more time to read, reflect, and apply the materials to projects and assignments than I anticipated. These challenges will become examples that help me identify and develop suitable leadership strategies that are adaptive to the VUCA world when I am in a leadership position. I think future courses will provide me with diverse tools and skills enabling me to perform effectively in other capacities, which allow me to complement and ascend my leadership proficiencies to a higher level.
Modern communication technologies will keep leaders and employees across the organization on their feet in communicating without overlooking or forgetting details from updates. Siddique et al. (2023) reported that the seamless exchange of real-time data between employees across the organization enhanced employee coordination, and operational efficiency, which led to better financial results. These technological developments require leaders to be more agile and adaptive than ever. They help leaders to reach out and cooperate with their team remotely regardless of geographic difficulties. However, this proposes new challenges for leaders in establishing employee-leader relationships. As creating a sense of belongingness is more challenging to perform remotely than in in-person settings, employees may feel disconnected and burnout, which leads to a higher employee turnover rate. Therefore, leaders have to become better at emotional intelligence and communication skills so that they can build and maintain a supportive, welcoming culture to offset this negative impact.
Considering these challenges, human resources and finance management are two subjects I want to learn to help prepare me to lead more effectively. The functions of "tactical positioner, trustworthy activist, capacity builder, change campaigner, HR innovator, and technology promoter" must be filled and present during any successful change implementation (Al-Nakeeb & Ghadi,2024). The more functions I can perform effectively, the more effectively I navigate my team through unexpected and expected change implementations. Moreover, securing sufficient funding to sustain my leadership initiatives is essential and beneficial for me and the people I lead. Being more proficient in human resources improves my visibility over the total picture of the organization's operation mechanism. With finance management mastery, I can secure more resources for my subordinates to satisfy their needs to strive for more innovation.
