I'm going to talk about mainly maternity leave but also paternity leave. Just going to say maternity to encompass both. I'm going to be talking about the importance of parental involvement in the beginning stages of the child's life benefits for children and I'm also going to be talking about maternity leave in the US and other countries. Then we'll wrap it all up. So first off both benefit from having that time with your parents to be a problem because there was always usually one parent staying home with the children raising the children 's usually in the workforce and the children get sent off to daycares to while the parents are busy working and this has created a lot of problems, a lot of mental health problems for children. A lot of other problems for children that we are just now starting to realize children need a loving bond with their parents. They don't get that it could lead to cognitive problems, developmental problems and also mental health issues. Now not only do you babies benefit from having that bond s also benefit from that launch. Whenever you're bonding with a child in those first stages, you start to realize that that connection that growth between both you and the child and understanding how they communicate and how to communicate to the child. And if you don't get that special time with them, you miss out on it and it creates a wedge between the children and the parents. So not only do we have that. So FMLA usually last about 12 weeks. What a lot of families do is they get short-term disability which will cover anywhere from 6:00 to 12 weeks depending on if you had a difficult birth or a c-section 6 weeks or healthy baby, that's not enough time. In our experience we dealt with a baby that ended up in NICU and we had on difficulties and that made it 10 times hard so that short amount of adjustment time just wasn't quiten't quite excuse me and 29 other countries they all offer paid time off of a minimum of two months that is crazy. The US is not even on that list. Some countries offer a bit more time but the pay rate is lower. Like let's let's talk about according to business.org countries like Estonia offer 20 weeks of 100% pay Poland 20 weeks 100% pay Costa Rica 17.3 weeks 100% pay even countries like Mexico offer 12 weeks at 100% pay and then you have countries like Greece that are doing something really interesting. They are giving them 43 weeks at 61.8 % pay and then countries like Sweden are offering 43 weeks but it's divided up between the two parents so one parent can take the entire time off or they can divide that between the two parents and they can take it at the same time or separate.
