CASE STUDY

You are required to choose a Company that has gone into liquidation/receivership in the last five years.You need to be able to obtain financial information on the Company that you choose. Check with your tutor before finalising your company.

1.Write a brief description on the Company, identifying the industry they were in, their turnover, how long they had been in business and the history of the organisation.

1. Obtain a copy of their financial statements prior to going into liquidation. Using your knowledge from this subject and previous studies, write a report to management identifying any issues and making suggestions as to the areas they need to improve.

1. What were the issues that sent this business into liquidation?Did the Company do anything wrong or was it out of their control?

To locate a company

Search for the names of companies going into liquidation through Google.

e.g. trythe following search string:

Company + liquidation + search + Australia

Also scroll through the ASIC website, that may assist.

Use an Australian public company, not a company registered outside Australia

Use the RMIT library databases

Search for more information about your company via the library's electronic databases.
