When a company is in the stage where they are profit planning, cost volume profit analysis can be a vital tool. It is also critical that CVP be used when making decisions about selling prices, product mix, and making use of production facilities. The components that make up CVP, are volume, unit selling prices, variable cost, fixed cost, and lastly sales mix. A business is often deemed successful if they are making a profit, this why it's important for a business to know its break-even point, it can use that information to know how to price its products, what is the minimum number of units they need to sell in addition to other factors.
