Project - Restaurant Concept
Using the information we have learned so far regarding menu content (Wk5), Menu Layout & Design (Wk6) and Writing The Menu (Wk7), Design your own Menu for your future restaurant.
PART B - Menu Design
1. You will now create the menu to align with the details in your concept in PART A.
The menu should include a variety of different meal categories (Wk5) that suits your concept.
Starters/Appetizers
Salads
Entrees/Mains [this would be anything that would be considered a big plate]
Dessert
Speciality Categories As Applicable [These would be stand-alone categories in addition to or in replacement of the above one or more of the above categories, that match your concept - EX if you are an Italian concept you may have Pasta and Pizza Categories]
You should include a balanced selection of items for each category ensuring they match your concept. If you are opening an Indian Restaurant Greek Salad and Cheeseburgers do not match your concept. (5 Marks)
2. A layout that utilizes the psychology of reading a menu (Wk6) to highlight items you want to sell. Based on our learning in Week 6 arrange the menu items in each section in a logical and easy to read format. Select a clear legible font. Clearly identify the categories and items from one another. Strategically highlight the items you want to sell more of or are considered a specialty. (5 Marks)
3. Write descriptions of each of items that best communicate them to your guests (Wk7)- Descriptions should clearly identify ingredients, cooking method and/or "romance" the item using correct adjectives. DO NOT tell a story about each item, just ensure the reader will understand what they are ordering. (5 Marks)
Helpful Hint - Use Microsoft Word, select a NEW document and using the Search Bar select a Menu Template. Input your menu using the template. [Not Mandatory but may be helpful].
4. Your menu should fit on one to two standard sheet of Letter Size paper and be submitted in the assignments folder as a PDF.(3 Marks)
