Holly: I've always loved technical work and math since early childhood. As a teenager I was a little nerdy (laughs). So, I didn't jump in and do leadership. Yet I did form an environmental club in high school that lasted about six months. We would go around different neighborhoods giving people tips on how to protect the environment if we saw a problem. Come to think of it though, I did head up a subgroup in our department to analyze what toxic and recyclable materials were being placed in dumpsters. It was a dirty job, but somebody had to do it (laughs). Malcolm: What about your personality, Holly? What leadership traits do you have? Holly: People do ask my opinion about environmental engineering topics, as well as information technology problems. I get along with people pretty well, and I also set a good example of being a hard worker. I think that's important for a leader. Malcolm: What is your long-term career goal? Holly: I wanted to be known as an environmental engineer who helped create a better environment without being a fanatic or a pest. Malcolm: Would you accept the team leadership position if it were offered to you within two weeks. Holly: My tentative answer is yes, but I would have to have more details about what the position would entail. Becoming a team leader would be a big step for me. Malcolm: It's been a pleasure interviewing you, and you will be hearing back from me soon
