This activity is due the day of the first exam. Identify how cognitive restructuring could be used to help reduce the person's stress response. Responses will be graded on a 10-point scale. You must address the following points in your response: (1) What are the cognitive distortions, toxic thoughts, or unhealthy thinking patterns that the person exhibits? (1 point) (2) What are some potential negative consequences of these unhealthy thinking patterns (behavioral, social, physical, occupational/educational, psychological, etc.)? Mention at least 3 potential negative consequences. (3 points) (3) How could you cognitively reframe the situation in a more accurate, adaptive, or positive way? She was really happy about going back until she found out she would have to have a one-on-one instructor in the classroom. Three of her old friends teased her about it yesterday, and today the only kids that were nice to her were kids she barely even knew. Plus, she missed auditions for the school play, and the only thing they'll let her do is help design sets. She's not sure she even wants to go to school anymore and is thinking of faking a fever and telling her parents she isn't feeling well again. She wishes that she had not wasted valuable study time on her intensive internship program, as it apparently (in Julie's mind) wasn't highly regarded by the graduate school anyway. Feeling that she just wasted her last semester and that she's unlikely to ever become the architect she dreamed of being, Julie just can't seem to muster the energy to study for finals. He has just been discharged from the hospital after a 5-day stay. He was already worried about the 5 days of work he missed, and now his physician has said she will not clear him to return to work for at least 6 more weeks. To make hings worse (in Mortimer's opinion), his brother that he had not seen in 18 years has left his own job and family to fly out and help Mortimer around he house for a few weeks.
