1. How can we study "the mind" when we can't actually "see" anything? Be sure to include specific examples to support your answer.
2. What do you know about the brain now, after taking this course, that you didn't know before? Does the brain continue to grow after a human reaches adulthood (say, 25 years old)?
3. How do we process information we take in from our senses? Is there anything special about this?
4. What do you know about "attention"? Is it something we have full control over?
5. What does "short-term memory" mean to you now? Explain why working memory is a better term, and provide examples of what this type of memory "is."
6. What does the term "long-term memory" mean to you now? What are the different "parts" or "types" of this type of memory?
7. How do you remember something from when you were younger? How do you remember something that you studied last semester? What are the differences (in terms of quality or quantity) between memories that are this far "apart" in time?
8. Is it possible to have "perfect" long-term memory? Could it be possible that you would misremember something very important? Provide examples to justify your answer.
9. When you "see something in your head," (e.g., you imagine what your first pet looked like) what is actually happening? Which side of the imagery debate are you on?
10. How do we (humans) use language? Is language something only humans have? Justify your answer.
11. Many problems that we encounter in our everyday lives would baffle other creatures (such as a dog, a horse,or an emu), and even computers would have problems with them (such as determining the best way to answer the question "Do you have feelings for me?"). How are humans able to be such good problem solvers??
