How can you make a diagonal matrix in Python, using a for loop, NOT the diagonal function?

The following function needs to be modified in order to produce a diagonal matrix of 5:

def print_matrix():

mat = []

ls = [0, 0, 0, 0]

for i in range(4):

mat.append(ls)

mat[i][i] = 5

print(mat)
