Helpful Notes:
The 80/20 rule is based upon the Pareto
principle
(also called 'the law of the vital few) which
states that, for many events, roughly
80% of the effects come from
20% of the causes. In this
case, we want to know what vendors make up 80% of profit.
Helpful steps:
1)
cumulative profit by vendor pivot table and label customer groups "A" (80% of
cumulative profit), "B" (the next 20% of cumulative profit), and "C" (losing money)
2)
Add a column to the Raw Data table and use the VLOOKUP function or the INDEX and
MATCH functions to label Vendors A, B or C.

3)
Do a Pivot chart that sums profit by customer from most profitable to least profitable
(a Pareto Chart).
4)
Do a pivot table that lists the line items and sums total profit by A, B and C category.
