It is set up to restrict the disclosure of any sensitive information that pertains to the procurement process. The main purpose of the PIA is to ensure that there is fairness and transparency in government contracting. It eliminates any issues with conflict of interest or acquisition decisions. This is very important to the acquisition process because it ensures that there is a level playing field when it comes to bidding on contracts. The PIA gives integrity to the federal government and ensures that there is no misuse of funding. There is no favoritism because of this Act and the competition for a contract bid is equal for everyone involved.

The various types of procurement fraud are bribery and corruption, product substitution, kickbacks, bid rigging, and cost mischarge. The one that sticks out to me the most is bribery and corruption; we have heard many times in the news about someone getting some kind of incentive if they do something. This is illegal and should not be tolerated, especially when working withing the federal government.

Some procurement fraud remedies are internal audits, debarment, and whistleblower protection. Whistleblower protection is a very important remedy that is used quite often in the federal government. It allows employees or former employees to come forward with a crime that has been committed by another employee. It allows protection for the individual who discloses the information, some information might be sensitive information. Anyone who has worked in the federal government is used to internal audits, it allows the government to ensure there is no waste, fraud, or abuse going on within the agency.

I do not believe that any of the remedies need revised. I have worked for the federal government for 14 years and as far as I have seen the remedies seem to work very well just as they are.
