As discrimination continues to be a pressing topic in society, it's evident that some people are still ignorant of the issue, and they continue to follow outdated rules that should have been abandoned long ago. Discrimination happens every day, and it's still prevalent in our society. It's outrageous that there are only seven CEOs from minority groups in the Fortune $250$ and only two black female CEOs in the Fortune $500.$ As Ms$.$ Mellody stated in the video, the best way to handle this issue is to become color$-$brave instead of color$-$blind. Ignoring the problem is not the solution. In my opinion, discrimination cannot be eliminated through legislation or moral action. Unfortunately, out of a population of $400$ million, there will always be some bad apples that will cause the issue to continue arising.

Chapter $5$ Question: Why do you think access and treatment inequities still occur in the workplace?

To be honest, the same way that the population of whites is $30\%$ but hold $70\%$ of board seats. Diversity is still an issue and the preference is being shadowed by discrimination whether it is intentional or non$-$intentional. We as a society need to be color$-$brave so we can discuss and hit these issues head$-$on instead of being scared of discussing them.

Chapter $6$ Question: What do you think are the reasons why the Asian population is the fastest$-$growing group in the U$.$S$.?$

It seems that people from other countries may not be as accustomed to diversity as we are in the United States. While our country is a melting pot of different races and cultures, some may argue that we still have a long way to go in terms of true equality and freedom. It's worth asking ourselves whether we are truly free or if we have been conditioned to believe that we are, while in reality, resources and power remain concentrated in the hands of a select few.

Chapter $7$ Question: The population growth rate for non$-$Hispanic Whites is lower than that of all other racial and ethnic groups. Why is the growth declining for non$-$Hispanic Whites and how might economic factors impact this decline?

The population is declining because mixed races are taking over. What was once a dominant race is now being mixed with other cultures which is declining the non$-$Hispanic whites. But if we look at the whole picture the same dominating races are dominating the higher$-$paying jobs. The only factor that might impact this decline is that opportunities might open for other races but we still need to gain access to those opportunities.

Ted Talk Question: In what ways does the Ted Talk speaker challenge society towards racial understanding and equity?

The first thing that took me by surprise was the fact that she was mistaken for being a maid instead of a CEO at a convention. She challenges society by not looking at racial injustice and discrimination from a color$-$blind perspective but from a color$-$brave perspective. We as a society can learn from each other by asking those challenging questions and getting to know one another so we can continue to make each other grow into a better society and have a better understanding of where and what we come from. I always followed this in the military as well as in life. Knowing a little of everything is way better than knowing a lot of nothing. Understanding different cultures and using the knowledge to have a better understanding of how we make life better is always a great recipe for success.
