The article that really stood out to me is Barbie Doll by Marge Peircy. My initial thought after reading the poem was shock. Then I sat there and thought about it. I had to read it again. It was very well put. There is a lot of pressure for everyone to look a certain way. The poem was raw and made me feel sad that even at a young age we are pressuring people to look a certain way to the point where someone does not want to be alive. We all want to look good and feel good about ourselves but at what cost? I personally feel as if the beauty standards in today's society are unrealistic and very harmful to young adults, and children alike. Personally I felt this a lot growing up. The pressure to be beautiful on the outside can be very overwhelming especially when we constantly see advertisements for diet pills, the latest fad diets, and "instagram models'. At least a dozen times a day if I am watching TV, or even scrolling through social media there are celebrities promoting something to make you lose weight, or even cream to help you get rid of wrinkles and look younger. If there is not an advertisement to help someone lose weight or get rid of wrinkles, there is someone who you can tell has had plastic surgery. Plastic surgery to the point where they do not even look natural. It makes me wonder if we as a society are too focused on outside looks
