A total of 90 boys and 80 girls responded to the following question:

1. Determine what the expected frequencies would be for the two cells in the first row (show your work).

2. Calculate the part of the total chi square for the first cell (boys: very much). Place the answer here: _____________.

3. The total chi square = 34.79. Using the .01 alpha level, determine whether this is significant.

4. Using the percentages (converted from number of responses) as well as the previous chi-square analysis, interpret the reason for the significance by looking at the differences in the percentages for each type of response of the boys and the girls.
