How does one become a virtuous person and come to have the character and practical wisdom to know what is ethically required in our communication with others?

One becomes a virtuous person and of good character in the way they live rather than following a set of rules or guidelines. A person who has good character and integrity relies on his or her logic to behave ethically in certain scenarios. This said when one possesses good character their actions will show up virtuous. Ethical action is not something done as a desire or want but it is the result of good character. I believe one achieves good character and as a result establishes ethical actions by practicing good virtues. For example when one practices good virtues like being: brave, just, honest, generous, and much more. He will develop the practical wisdom and knowledge to know how to ethically communicate with others. In our book Benjamin Franklin abandoned his project and instead began practicing the thirteen virtues that he established. Later he may have not been successful as he failed the virtues. He least tried which shows how a founding father can contain good character allowing him to display ethical actions to communicate with others.

Review the list of virtues taken from Aristotle$$s work on ethics. Which ones seem to be especially applicable to our communication with each other?

I think Truthfulness along with honesty, justice, and righteousness are some virtues that can easily apply to our communications with one another. To ethically and meaningfully communicate there needs to be some level of honesty and truth in a discussion or conversation. The purpose of communication is to share ideas or information with the ability to speak truthfully. Essentially, if you're unable to communicate truthfully, others won't take you seriously, which in return affects your ability to establish genuine conversations. Honesty, justice, and righteousness are virtues that further add to the importance of truthfulness. Building on the foundation of communicating truth, it becomes just as equally important to connect justice and honesty into our conversations. As it allows us to maintain ethical and moral integrity within our communication.

Do you feel more comfortable with situational ethics or ethical relativism? Why?

I think I would be more comfortable with ethical relativism vs situational ethics. In situational ethics, predicting all the factors is impossible meaning one must act on what seems right at the moment. This way of ethically thinking frightens me as theirs no time to think of whether you are right or wrong and so you just have to make a choice. Solely choosing by love, also doesn't sound very intriguing as theirs no logic behind it being just a guess. While ethical relativism sounds much more subjective and depends on what society you live in$.$ A decision you make can be correct in a certain community but completely wrong somewhere else. So as long as you make the correct choice relating to your community you should be fine. Additionally, there is no right or wrong in how we respond to an ethical problem. Someone is just offering a subjective response on what he or she believes is right. This means the response can either be an opinion or a proven fact. Ultimately establishing why ethical relativism has a greater chance of producing the right decision when compared to situational ethics reasoning. what can you reply to him about what he said
