General Hospital found themselves having an issue with their Master Patient Index $($MPI$)$ due to having over $3,000$ potential duplicate health records issued over the past five years. They needed to clean up the overlay of the health records in the MPI before they could implement the electronic health record $($EHR$).$ In order to do this, the hospital first began the educating their patient registration staff on proper search strategies, questions to ask patients, the importance of a unit health record, as well as other related topics. The hospital then hired a consulting firm once the education was complete, which was a crucial role in cleaning up the MPI. The consultants then reviewed all the duplicate health records and merged them where appropriate. Once the consulting firm ensured that all the health records we the entire correctly within the hospital's system, they then ensured that all of the health records which departments may have created the duplicate healthcare organization. The consulting firm also discovered which clerks and others. It appears that General Hospital didn't give the proper health records$-$admissions, emergenicy department, outpatient se health records within their Master Patient Index. If all staff had the proper education and training in order to prevent such a drastic overlay such a mess and wouldn't have needed to hire the consulting firm in order education and training, they wouldn't have found the to clean up all of the duplicates that were created.
