After reviewing the syllabus for this class on working in teams, I am genuinely looking forward to the opportunities it presents for both personal and professional growth. My expectation is that this course will challenge me to refine my skills in communication, collaboration, and conflict resolution?skills that are absolutely vital to my intended career in fundraising.
I enrolled in this class because I understand that fundraising is inherently a team-driven field. Successful campaigns and donor relationships are rarely the result of individual efforts; rather, they depend on the synergy and cooperation of people with diverse perspectives and skill sets. I want to become adept at navigating different team dynamics, understanding group roles, and leveraging collective strengths to achieve common objectives. Additionally, I am interested in learning about the latest research and theoretical models related to teamwork, especially as they pertain to nonprofit settings.
What I hope to gain from this class is both a conceptual framework and practical strategies for working in high-performing teams. I am particularly eager to participate in case studies and group projects that mirror real-world fundraising environments, where adaptability, shared leadership, and creative problem-solving are essential. By engaging with these activities, I want to improve my ability to build consensus, manage disagreements constructively, and foster a positive, inclusive team culture.

Course Syllabus Course Description: This course examines the design, management, and leadership of teams in organizational and community settings. The focus is on the interpersonal processes and structural characteristics that influence the effectiveness of teams. The purpose of this course is to understand the theory and processes of group and team behavior so that small groups can be more effective, efficient, and enjoyable. Course Learning Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to: e Define a team e Create a team design e Discuss interpersonal relationships and conflict resolution e Examine leadership roles in teams e Identify the role of communication in teams e Describe the importance of decision making, creativity, and motivation e Demonstrate an understanding of diversity and project management e Conduct a performance evaluation Program Outcomes: The Project Management Concentration focuses on implementation and use of both theoretical and practical applications of current project management processes and techniques. Students will develop the skills required to manage both the project and i's associated inputs, as well as the stakeholders associated, for a better, more complete understanding of the inputs and managerial factors associated with project management. Key skills students address include the ability to work within a team environment, how to influence and motivate people, identify risk and develop mitigation plans, track progress of projects and stakeholders, develop schedules, monitor financial aspects, perform ethically and lead in a diverse business environment.
