This short video explains the purpose of the thesis statement and how to write and revise one.
As you work through the writing process, your thesis statement may change to adjust to your evolving logic. That's fine! What is important here is to give yourself a logical direction that you will pursue as you research and write your paper. Think of your thesis statement in three parts: the topic, your opinion or viewpoint on the topic, and the reasons for your opinion (the reasons you will use to defend your opinion). This third part can act as a preview for the rest of your essay.
