I am making a presentation based on my own personal counselling philosophy for an MSc in Counselling course. I am a trainee counsellor.

First, I would like to explore my own personal values and convictions about human beings and life in general.

Next, I want to explore the major theories of counselling (I have studied, humanistic, psychodynamic, behavioural and cognitive), and subscribe to one theory that closely resembles my personal values and beliefs (I believe this is the humanistic approach)

Then I would like to examine the counselling theory extensively from primary source materials and seek to understand what I agree/ disagree with and why.

After that, I would like to examine to what degree I am comfortable using the theory and discover to what extent the theory works for me in helping clients.

Once I have done this, I would like to integrate selected aspects of the cognitive approach into the person centred approach.

Lastly, I must transform to my own unique and personal theory of counselling as a natural result of all that has come before.
