In this scenario you need to address the conflict and take the opportunity to clarify communication between the parties.

Specifically, you need to address the following:

  • Establish behavioural expectations with the project managers so thateach project manager feels that they are treated fairly and equitably.
  • Define and communicate agreed roles and responsibilities whereopen discussion between the two project managers is encouraged and the conflict is defused.
  • Use coaching techniques to steer the managers towards program benefits in whichthe difference of views, needs and opinions between Tom and Jane are managed constructively.
  • Identify learning needs and the opportunity to create a more collaborative and supportive environment.
  • Negotiate an agreed plan for better communication withthe conflict with showing a commitment to a plan that supports both project managers.
