Excerpt from the Texas Declaration of Independence

March 2nd 1836

When, in consequence of such acts of malfeasance and abdication on the part of the government, anarchy prevails, and civil society is dissolved into its original elements. In such a crisis, the first law of nature, the right of self-preservation, the inherent and inalienable rights of the people to appeal to first principles, and take their political affairs into their own hands in extreme cases, enjoins it as a right towards themselves, and a sacred obligation to their posterity, to abolish such government, and create another in its stead, calculated to rescue them from impending dangers, and to secure their future welfare and happiness.

'Texas Principles' 1. From the reading, the form of Texas principles is interesting. The reading discusses the subject of the legal use of marijuana amongst certain states. 2. Considering the function of the topic, the most important idea of the section discusses the reasons why the Texas principle at hand is governed on a statewide level versus a National one.

3. A state may refuse to give full faith and credit to the actions of another state if those actions are deemed against the public policy of the state. Ultimately, the public policy exception is determined by the federal courts (Full Faith and Credit Clause 88).

Federalism'

1. From the reading, the form of Federalism is great. The reading discusses the subject of Federalism dividing the powers of the state and the government. One characteristic of this political policy is that it can help states override certain laws implemented by the government. A feature of the political policy is it can allow states to have power in their hands. An element of the political policy is that it can give states the ability to pass certain laws that alternate states haven't passed yet. From the reading, the function of this political policy acts in a way to benefit states in the long run.

2. Considering the function of the topic, the most important idea of the section discusses the reasons why Federalism is essential to American Government.

3. 'It should be noted that there are degrees of Federalism-- that is, regional governments can have substantial power in relation to the national government or they may have quite limited powers.

4. 'Advocates of Federalism often claim they the best government is the one closest to the people' (The Pros and Cons of Federalism 83).

5. 'Advocates of stronger centralized government would make a contrary argument that a decentralized government makes it harder for government to act in a clear and uniform manner to deal with problems that are facing people (The Pros and Cons of Federalism 83).

Political Party'

1. From the reading, the form of political policy is great. The reading discusses the subject of same-sex marriage. One characteristics of this political policy is that it can cause less depression amongst people. A feature of the political policy is that it can contribute to a better psychological well-being. An element of the political policy is that it can treat and even cure anxiety. From the reading, the function of this political policy acts in a manner to benefit people.

2. Considering the function of the topic, the most important idea of the section discusses the reasons why the political policy at hand is unconstitutional versus why it is constitutional.

3. The classic example involved same-sex marriage prior to the Supreme Court's decision in Obergefell y Hodges (2015) which recognized same-sex marriage as a constitutional right. Before Obergefell, Hawaii was on the verge of recognizing same-sex marriage and Congress passed the Defense of Marriage Act in 1996 which allowed states to refuse to recognize same-sex marriages from other states, 13 (Full Faith and Credit Clause 88).

4.One of the main exceptions to the full faith and credit clause is not congressional action allowing states to reject the acts of other states, it is a vague concept known as the public policy exception (Full Faith and Credit Clause 88).

5. A state may refuse to give full faith and credit to the actions of another state if those actions are deemed against the public policy of the state (Full Faith and Credit Clause 88).

'Political Participation'

1. From the reading, the form of political participation is great. The reading discusses the subject of the tenth-amendment. One characteristics of this political policy is that it gives states the power to make certain decisions. A feature of the political policy is that it can contribute to the government having less power over states. An element of the political policy is that it can balance power the government might have over a state. From the reading, the function of this political policy acts in a manner to help the state.

2. Considering the function of the topic, the most important idea of the section discusses the reasons why the political policy at hand is an important amendment to have in place so that the government cannot be too powerful.

3. Paxton joined a lawsuit against it with eleven other states. In filing the suit, Paxton said he "wanted to give it one last shot" prior to Donald Trump becoming president, believing this would be Paxton's last chance to sue over an Obama administration policy (Pros and Cons of Federalism 82).

4. The state's argument in the suit was that the rule had been adopted without participation by the states. It was necessary to sue, said Paxton, because "yet again we must fight federal overreach (Pros and Cons of Federalism 82).

5. This rule tramples states' retention of sovereign authority under the Tenth Amendment and seeks to destroy an entire industry, displacing hardworking men and women and setting a precedent to disregard states' own understanding of major industries within their borders (Pros and Cons of Federalism 82).

6. The rule went into effect on December 20, 2016.
