Question: I had another quick question to make sure I am not completely off track, A study tested whether there was a significant decrease in crime

I had another quick question to make sure I am not completely off track,

A study tested whether there was a significant decrease in crime rates during COVID-19 pandemic. Monthly number of crime rates in a large city was collected and compared between 2020 and 2019 years. Table 1 shows the monthly number of crime cases between March to August (6 months) in 2019 and 2020. A t-test was employed to examine the research question. Please answer the following two questions:

Table 1. Paired t-test of crime rates from March to August, 2019 vs. 2020.

Crime cases March April May June July August Mean
2019 78,906 74,947 77,354 76,721 81,740 76,618 77,714
2020 65,819 48,570 57,083 62,112 70,377 71,156 62,519
t-test t=0.002 (P<0.01)

  1. Interpret Table 1 and the results of the t-test

First question I have is what calculations do I need to put into my calculator to better read this table? And draw additional results from the table?

I see the average is down and there is at least an observable correlation, what I am still a little stumped on is exactly how to interpret the table and the results of the T-test to make sure I am not missing nay additional conclusions that I have to bring out.

Second question what is the significance of t=0.002 (P<0.01)?

Am I correct when I state that "given that the p Value is .0002 <.01 which is less than the normal alpha variant set for the null hypothesis and therefore would reject the null hypothesis that stated that there was no relationship between theMonthly number of crime rates in a large city and the decrease in crime rates during COVID-19 pandemic. Given the rejection of the null hypothesis, then itshows a significant statistical relationship between the test scores"
