Topic description: The European Union has proclaimed a China de-risking" strategy in the context of geopolitical turmoil and an over-exposure of China as a sourcing market. This exposure hit Europe hard during the Covid-19 Pandemic and the aftermath with China being in a lock-down for a prolonged period. Critical components from China became scarce and transportation costs skyrocketed. Additionally, the Chinese government is know for its China first approach and its aggressive pursuit of Chinese interest especially for economic concerns. With the German economy strongly connected to China as a source of good buts also as a market for its own companies the question of de-risiking from China is in particular relevant for German companies. This study is primarily addressed at decision makers in German companies which have some sort of exposure to China as a market or as a source of goods/parts.It aims to structure the problem of de-risking from China from a company perspective and to provide a framework for decision support. The political agenda and the macroecomomic implications of de-risiking from China is not the scope of this study instead it focused on the perspective of an individual company that is reconsidering its go to market strategy and sourcing strategy for China.
