Based on my readings from the book, there are two different types or leadership theories; House's Path-Goal Leadership Theory; which states to be a successful leader you must "add value" to situations by using direct leadership, supportive leadership, achievement leadership, and participation leadership. This theory supports both innovative and the entrepreneurial spirit because it focuses on supportive leadership. A supportive leader does things to make the work environment pleasant by being approachable and showing concern for the well-being of others. Base on this style team members are encourage and feel free to innovate and bring new things to the team. This method focuses on giving their employees a clear bath to achieve goals by removing any obstacles that they may have. This means that if an employee wants to be innovative the leader will help them set goals and have a path and plan to what they are trying to achieve and clear out time for them to work on it. If a member wants to go the entrepreneurial route, the leader will not forget them and push them aside, they will give them all of the information that they need to be successful in the work that they are doing now, as well as set them a path and goal time frame to when they will leave. Leader-Member Exchange Theory; This is where the leader has a tendency to develop "special" relationships with some team members. In this theory the leader will take the time to develop special relations to their members. This doesn't mean getting awkwardly close, but just close enough to know their employees and care for them as people. By knowing everyone who is under you and their personal lives and goals. The leader will be more inclined to not only listen to their goals but help them set a path and not want to get in the way of their innovation and entrepreneurship. The members will feel like they can come to them and will be more open and honest about their goals and improvements. Followership is important in creating a culture of innovation and entrepreneurial spirit within the organization because it can help bring new ideas to the table, challenge the group, and provide support and encouragement to the leaders.
