Exercise 1: Design a Highly Motivating Course For the first exercise, I would like your group to refer to Figure 6.7 in your textbook ("Job Characteristics Model"). Each of you should think about one course you are taking/have taken that you have found motivational and one course in which you struggled with motivation. Use this framework to analyze why you think one was more motivating for you than the other. Discuss your observations with each other and compare experiences. Then, I would like you to work together to design a highly motivating university course. A) Consider each of the Core Job dimensions in the model. Explain how professors might ensure these core dimensions are covered in their courses (ie. in their lectures, assignments/course components, course outlines, grading/rewards systems, class atmosphere, etc.). B) Explain how you believe your recommendations will give rise to Critical Psychological States (intrinsic motivators) that will lead to better student performance.
