In Praise & Blessing: The Function of the Leader Archetype, Dr. Gervase R. Bushe, Ph.D. outlines how important praise and blessings (positivity) is to leadership, specifically Appreciative Leadership. Dr. Bushe provides the following:

The good Queen (or King) however, makes others the center of attention. In her presence others feel bigger, smarter, stronger, more able. The Queens job is to admire and adore her followers, to praise them and in doing so, help them to become more than they thought they could be.

Good Authority is also defined as a leader who:

Adores others and makes them the center of attention

Serves the people

Has a vision of the great society, organization, etc.

Takes responsibility

Steps aside when it is appropriate to do so

The previous lesson required some personal reflection and introspection of ourselves and our strengths. This discussion asks you to share positive thoughts, feelings and words of others.

Please share your thoughts on a leader you have had who embodied the ideas outlined by Dr. Bushe and lived the qualities of an Appreciative Leader. How did they display these qualities? What made them different than others? How did their Appreciative Leadership impact you and the organization (if applicable)? How has your life, personally and/or professionally, changed based on your experiences with this Appreciative Leader?
