I NEED HELP CONSTRUCTING THESE COLUMNS ON SOLIDWORKS!!!! I WILL UPVOTE!!
Problem 1(25 points). Consider five (one-by-one) columns of lengths 1.0m,3.25m,5.5m,7.75m and 10.0 m . All these columns are fixed at the bottom and free at the top. For each column, the cross section is circular with a diameter of 200 mm , and the material is alloy steel. Perform a buckling analysis for each column using SolidWorks. Show the first buckled mode shape for each column, and report the first critical load (Pcr= Applied Compressive Load Buckling Factor of Safety for Mode 1) for each column (in a table). You are free to choose any value for the applied compressive load using your judgement (to be applied at the top of the columns); I recommend choosing around 1,500kN. Next, using the so-obtained five data points (ie., for five columns), show the scatter plot (a spreadsheet can be used for this) of the critical unit load (=PrrA, where A is the area of the cross section) vs. slenderness ratio (=lk, where l is the length of the column, k=IA2 is the radius of gyration, I=d464 is the moment of inertia of the cross section about the neutral axis, and d is the diameter of the cross section); this plot should look like the figure shown below.
